The Fortress Resort & Spa is a stylish boutique hotel, with a design inspired by the nearby 300-year-old Galle Fort. Its architecture blends the best of historic Dutch and Portuguese styles with innovative Sri Lankan motifs, to create a unique and distinctive contemporary experience. Guests enter through a pair of immense wooden gates to find themselves in an extensive courtyard, the focal point of the hotel, with pretty gardens, and columns and terraces in brilliant white.
There are only 53 guestrooms at The Fortress, but all provide the ultimate in luxury, with private courtyards or balconies, full-length French windows, and open-plan bathrooms with whirlpool baths and rain showers — some even have their own private plunge pool. Dining options include the Pepper Restaurant, serving the fresh catch of the day, and Heat, where you can enjoy fresh lobster in the open air — and then there is the romantic fine dining venue DUO, its walls stacked from floor to ceiling with a selection of more than 2,000 fine wines. There is exclusive private dining at Wine3, and there are also two attractive lounges — Sea Lounge for cocktails, some infused with tea, and T Lounge, with its wide selection of perfectly blended Ceylon teas.
