St James’s Club and Villas sets out to be family friendly, and encourages singles, families and wedding couples — in fact it is very well-frequented by families most of the year round. However, despite its casually welcoming attitude and its relaxed atmosphere, the location on a private peninsula between two bays, and the 100-acre grounds, impart a sense of seclusion and tranquillity. In fact, there is a feeling of being on a private island retreat.
The accommodation provides something to suit all types of guest — there are the standard and premium club rooms, and private stand-alone villas that are ideal for families. Couples will love the Royal Suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows, sunken living areas and two pools. All rooms are furnished in a Caribbean nautical colour scheme, in navy blue, sky blue and white, with terracotta floors.
Of the four restaurants, the one for fine dining is Piccolo Mondo, which charges a supplement — otherwise there is the waterside Docksider, which does an excellent outdoor Caribbean buffet every Thursday, the Rainbow Garden, which every Monday has an international buffet with live Caribbean music, and Coco’s Restaurant and Bar, right on the shore. There are several bars, and at the Reef Deck Bar by the pool, guests are welcomed to a cocktail party every Monday evening. Weddings are also a feature of the resort, the most popular wedding location being the Hibiscus gazebo, overlooking the ocean.
