Recently taken over by Sandals, this is the old Royal Plantation, a haven over the decades for stars and royal personages, and it certainly retains its exquisite old-world colonial elegance and charm, with its magnificent Georgian architecture, sweeping staircases and marble floors. The Sandals Royal Plantation is the Caribbean’s only all-suite, all-butler resort, and it is renowned among its exacting clientele for its superior service, as well as its opulence and luxury. Your personal butler greets you from the moment of your arrival and takes care of everything, from escorting you to your suite, unpacking and drawing your bath, to taking care of all your dining requirements and activities throughout your stay.
All the 74 sumptuous suites at the Royal Plantation face the ocean, and all are furnished and decorated in classical colonial style, with handcrafted mahogany canopied beds, rich fabrics and fine linens. There are four restaurants, including the beach-side Royal Cafe for lunches by the sea, plus a British pub and two other bars, but what really distinguishes the place is the C-Bar, Jamaica’s only champagne and caviar bar, serving the finest Russian and Iranian caviar as well as exclusive champagne. In the afternoon, the Terrace is the scene of afternoon tea, English-style, and at bedtime, the serving of old-time hot cocoa, Jamaican-style.
