Hermitage Bay can surely be regarded as the perfect retreat — a place where “getting away from it all” is not just a holiday cliché, but simply a reality. Here, man-made sounds are kept to a minimum, so that you can wake in the morning to no sounds but those of the birds and the sea. There are only 25 cottages, so even when the resort is at full capacity, you feel you have the place to yourself.
The cottages are built of wood in rustic style, but they provide the ultimate in contemporary-colonial luxury, with polished hardwood floors, sumptuous beds and spacious bathrooms with double bathtubs, as well as outdoor garden showers. Each of the 17 hillside suites, all with sensational views, has a private plunge pool and a wrap-around sunbathing deck, while the eight beachfront suites are right by the sea, so you can step out directly on to the sands. Golf buggies are available for transporting guests to the hillside suites if required.
The hotel lounge is right on the beach and is an open-air structure where you can just relax in the shade, have an informal lunch, and in the evening gather for drinks by candle-light. The restaurant is in three descending tiers, so that every table has a perfect sea view, and serves top-class menus cooked from locally sourced ingredients — evening dinner is accompanied by live calypso, jazz and steel band sounds. The hotel specialises in small, intimate weddings, limiting them to one a week to ensure each one is perfect.
